Notes:  Today we finish up I John 4.

Do we really understand that God graciously  loved us before we loved him.  We were still wretched sinners deserving God’s wrath, not love.  We need to praise God for His wonderful mercy.

I John 4:19-21

We love, because He first loved us.  If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.  And this commandment we have from Him  that the one who loves God should love his brother also.

E. Perfected Love for your brothers proves the reality of spiritual life in you (V 19-21)

  1.  An argument from the nature of the gospel. (V19)

  2.  An argument from common sense (V20)

  3.  An argument from the law that’s written on the Christian’s heart. (V21)
